How come I keep going to France, buy many nectar makers and wine storage things and then I get home and have nothing? I checked my sims inventory but see nothing. Could it be somewhere else...or is this an annoying glitch?

Family Inventory?
The items should be in your Family Inventory. Go to Buy Mode, then click on the third (bottom) option, the one that looks like an open cardboard box. (Right below "sort by room" and "sort by item type").

You can buy the nectar maker
You can buy the nectar maker in France, from the marketplace - I believe from the general store. Once you buy it, when you return home you will find it in your family inventory. (In Buy Mode, click on the icon that looks like an open cardboard box to see your family inventory.)
