9 Tips For Making A Better Sims 3 Baby

1.    In earlier versions of The Sims, you always had a chance of making a baby with just regular "Woo Hoo."  This doesn't seem to be the case with Sims 3.  As far as I know, you can ONLY get pregnant with "Try For Baby."

(I'm sure I read a mention somewhere that there is a vanishingly small chance that an act of Woo Hoo will result in a pregnancy, but I can't find it now.)

2.  If you want a boy, eat apples during your pregnancy.  If you want a girl, eat watermelons.  Eating three of either is usually enough to do the trick.

According to Carl's Guide, your Sim has to eat the fruit BEFORE they are visibly pregnant.  In other words, scarf those fruits within 24 hours of hearing the tell-tale lullaby jingle in bed.  (I haven't tested this myself, but Carl knows his stuff!)

6 Secrets to Successful Sims 3 Gardening

1. Skillz

There are two skills you need to be a great gardener: gardening (duh) and fishing.  If your Sims are busy, you can have another household member actually catch the fish.  Then just drag them into your gardening Sim's inventory.

These fish can then be used to fertilize your garden.  They make a HUGE difference.  Fertilized plants grow faster, yield more produce, and give produce of a better quality.  The better the quality of the fish used as fertilizer, the better your results.

(Although you definitely get a situation of diminishing returns, so don't get too caught up on the quality of the fertilizer.)

Sims 3 News Round-Up

Out Now: Fast Lane
This stuff pack has an awful lot of new cars, as you might expect.  Frankly I don't get very excited about cars - my Sims are only in them for a few minutes at a time.  Half the time I don't even bother to buy my Sims a car, I just have them take taxi cabs.

You get four new collections (Rockabilly, "007 spy," NASCAR, and "luxury"), so that's neat.

Coming Soon: Late Night
Yay, vampires!  This looks like it will be basically the same as the Sims 2 expansion pack "Night Life."  Late Night ships on October 26th, just in time for Halloween!  Aside from vampires, Late Night will feature nightclubs (where you may or may not be able to get in) and downtown apartments.

Also Coming Soon: Buccaneer Bay

The Medical Career Track

In my quest to get to the top of every single career track, I ventured onto the Medical track this week.  There were some odd occurrences, which were probably just coincidence.

For example, this is the first time I have been offered the chance to switch career tracks halfway through - and I got that offer repeatedly.

At least four times, the game asked if I wanted to switch my Sim over to the other career (Science, if memory serves).
